Overall the book was great! The blurb is as follows and was taken directly from Adrienne’s website:
“Out of work and down on her luck, Lucie Rizzo is forced to do the one thing she’s long avoided—move back home with her nutty, mob-infested family. A move that brings her back into the tempting arms of Frankie Falcone, the ex that never fails to make her heart sit up and beg. When Lucie turns a dog-walking gig into a fancy dog accessory business, life starts to look like a walk in the park… until three of her bling-wearing clients are dogjacked. Despite Frankie’s help, Lucie is thrown into an investigation that’s more Goodfellas than good doggie. If she can survive her family and a plot involving stolen diamonds, she might just have a second chance at love.”
I’d have to give this story a full 5 stars. Anyone that’s ever been between jobs or has a crazy family can relate to Lucie. She’s a great character, but she’s also great to relate to. Her father is a mobster! He’s also in prison. Imagine living up to that one.
Frankie is different. Honestly, I think he has the most growing to do within the story, which is surprising. You don’t realize that he’s changing until it’s sort of thrown in your face. Upon looking back though, you see it. It’s like tossing a stone into a pond. The ripples eventually stop, but the stone is forever buried beneath. Lucie shows the ripples, but Frankie doesn’t.
One of my most favorite parts of the story is when she buys a weapon to protect herself and her dogs. Those dogs are like her babies. Lucie shows that you do not screw around with a woman that loves her dogs. You’ll suffer her wrath. If you haven’t read it yet, then you should get it just for that part alone! It’s fantastic!!
My next favorite part is the scene with the lady in the fancy shop! I love that Frankie went so far to help Lucie. It was great seeing her get jealous too!
Overall, I really like how Adrienne weaved the story together. You kinda get hints on who the guilty party is throughout it, but it’s still a bit of a surprise. I guarantee you’ll be rooting for Lucie though. That woman is like a mama bear…
The one thing that I would have liked to have seen is more on her running away from her mobster family, just because the characters are so lovely!! It was great that she created such an awesome story though! I think there’s only been four or five stories that have made me want to see more of the character’s family. I think it’s really neat that this story brought out that in me.
I’m pleased to say that I also looked for errors within the story and I couldn’t find any.
